Spoken Word Poetry: Bent But Unbroken
Spoken Word Poetry: Bent But Unbroken
Written By: Nicoli Alexander
Inspired by a moment I was forced to take a deeper look at a former version of myself. A time spent trying to fit in, to conform, to live a life I thought would make everyone else happy. It's never easy to face yourself, to take responsibility for all of the hurt you have caused, for all of the time you wasted, for all of the lost opportunities you didn't take, or to spend time healing and forgiving yourself for your mistakes. Written as a goodbye letter to that disconnected and insecure man, who has spent all of his time and energy in the past several years healing a bent but unbroken soul.
You thought
You had me by the throat
You had me by the throat
Chained to desair
One that can't be taken away
You were a weight on my soul
Tearing me down at every turn
Made me feel
I would never learn
But I found a spark
One that can't be taken away
From darkness
There is always light
Waiting for that moment
When the shadow Ignites
I may be bent,
But I'm unbroken
Unbroken
I may be bent,
But I'm unbroken
Unbroken
Unbroken
I finally
Found my peace
I can
Finally look you in the mirror
That reflection no longer unknown
No more empty promises
No more yesterdays or tomorrows
All we have is
Right now
This moment
So precious
This moment
So few
No more empty promises
No more yesterdays or tomorrows
All we have is
Right now
This moment
So precious
This moment
So few
No more empty promises
No more yesterdays or tomorrows
From darkness
There is always light
Waiting for that moment
When the shadow Ignites
I may be bent,
But I'm unbroken
Unbroken
I may be bent,
But I'm unbroken
Unbroken
Unbroken
